Step 4. Estimating manure composition
This worksheet estimates the amount of nutrients in manure and calculates the nutrient needs of crop(s).
Example Information:
1. Manure composition lb/ton raw waste (manure analysis not available so book value estimates are used - see table). NOTE: It is most accurate to have manure composition determined by lab analysis.
- Total N = 21 lb/ton
- Ammonium N = 8 lb/ton
- Nitrate N -----
- P2O5 = 18 lb/ton
- K2O = 26 lb/ton
2. Soil information
- Texture = Clay Loam
- Soil pH = 8.1 to 8.2
- Available P -----
- Available K -----
3. Nutrient needs of crop
- Crop to be grown Barley – Irrigated
- Expected yield/acre = 100 bu.
- Nutrients required/ac (see pages 5, 21 & 22. Fertilizer Guidelines for Montana Crops, EB 161, 2003)
- N = 160 lb/ac
- P2O5 = 50 lb/ac
- K2O = 75 lb/ac
