Grazing Riparian Areas - General Principles for Grazing Livestock in Riparian Areas

5. Influence the distribution of livestock within the targeted pasture.

Ultimately, it is not the length of time cattle are in a pasture, but the amount of time they are actually in the riparian area of that pasture which impacts that riparian area. Therefore, it is important to encourage cattle to move away from the stream. This can be done through proper season of use as well as with other techniques we will discuss in the "Grazing Magement" section.
