Calculating liquid storage capacity

Use the following worksheet to calculate the current storage capacity of your liquid manure storage facility. Compare the volume of liquid manure produced to your current manure storage capacity. Is the capacity of your manure storage area adequate? If not, you may need to consider additional or alternative storage practices.

Example

Storage Capacity (gallons)
Structure ID
Length (ft) x Width (ft) x Height (ft)*
x 7.5 gal/ft3**
= gallons
1. SW holding area
150
x 250
x 10
x 7.5 gal/ft3
= 2,812,500

* subtract 1 foot of freeboard space from the structure height.
** 1 cubic foot equals approximately 7.5 gallons
