Critical Storage Period: the number of continuous days manure and wastewater cannot be land applied or otherwise used. This occurs during the winter months or during the crop growing season when application cannot be made. In Montana, the critical winter storage period may range from 5 to 8 months (21 to 35 weeks or 147 to 242 days) depending upon location.
Supernatant: The clear fluid above a sediment or precipitate.
Sludge:
Semisolid material such as the type precipitated by sewage treatment.
