2008 Training Class Horse Sale

The Training Class Horse Sale is becoming an integral part of MSU's Equine Science Department. It is a many–faceted annual project that allows students to gain skills in all aspects of horse training and handling, horse marketing, sale planning, communication, and networking. The students are responsible for their assigned horse’s training from September through sale day in April.

The sale occurs on Saturday April 26, 2008 at the Bob Miller Stock Pavilion (W. Garfield St., Bozeman). The Buyer’s Dinner starts at 5:30 pm, the Special Preview begins at 6:00 pm, and the sale kicks off at 7:00 pm.

Other aspects of the 4–year Equine curriculum include:

  • English and Western Horsemanship
  • Equine growth, development, and nutrition
  • Backcountry horse–packing; horseshoeing
  • Land management for small acreage grazing
  • Personalized hands–on learning through interships and research
  • Basic sciences, communication, leadership, business, and ecology

Training Class Instructor, Wade Black is a graduate student at MSU working towards his master's degree in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences. His extensive experience in training horses began in his childhood; having grown up on large ranches in Nevada and Idaho. Black learned the trade from his father, Martin Black; grandfather, Ray Hunt; and many other renowned horsemen. Black practices and teaches his "foundation for perfection" techniques in the training classes at MSU. This is his second year instructing the classes.
