Dr. Rodney Kott grew up on a diversified ranch in central Texas raising sheep, goats and cattle.  He was active in 4-H, FFA, and collegiate livestock and judging activities.  Rodney received his BS and MS from Texas A&M University in 1974 and 1976, respectively, and his PhD from New Mexico State University in 1980.  Upon graduation, he moved to Montana to become the Extension Sheep Specialist at Montana State University.  Since that time, Dr. Kott has been responsible for planning and implementing sheep and wool educational programs throughout Montana.  In addition to being actively involved in Montana's sheep industry, Rodney has been involved in a number of taskforces at the National level.  He has worked closely with county, state and national grower organizations on sheep related issues.  Dr. Kott's program includes research in wool objective measurement and preparation, and also ewe management as related to lamb survivability.
