Beef/Cattle Extension Program

Research Programs

Research conducted by John Paterson, Ph.D.
The largest single category of expenditure in beef cow/calf production is feed costs. Although the beef feedlot industry is continuing to consolidate into fewer and larger operations, the cow-calf sector remains quite dispersed. The cow herd tends to locate near the low cost forages. My extension efforts focus on beef cattle nutrition and management.

The following are addressed:

  • winter feeding programs;

  • health management;

  • risk management; and

  • forage utilization strategies.
